Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards from an elevated scissor lift platform:    (a)	Packaging Room: On 06/021/11 and at times prior thereto, a worker did not use fall protection when he left the raised, protected platform of a Genie GS2646 and/or GS3246 elevated platform by climbing onto a 9 2 high shelf.     Among other methods, feasible and accepted methods to correct these hazards are to ensure workers are trained and comply with safety rules prescribed in ANSI/SIA A96.6-2006, Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms, including Section 7.10.9., which states, Personnel shall maintain a firm footing on the platform while working thereon.  Climbing by occupants on the midrail or toprail is prohibited.    Note:  Abatement certification IS required for this item.    Feasible and Useful Methods to abate the hazard include training workers regarding the Operators manual safety precautions, including requiring workers to maintain solid footing on an elevated platform, and/or moving, removing or disassembling obstructions, hazards, and equipment that interfere with the assigned work.
