29 CFR 1926.405(a)(2)(ii)(F): Temporary lights shall not be suspended by their electric cords unless cords and lights are designed for this means of suspension:    a)  On or about February 16, 2012, at the jobsite located 308-312 E. 53rd Street, Chicago, IL. - Employees and subcontractors employees were performing demolition, carpentry and electrical operations in a rehab. The temporary lights were suspended by their cords, thereby exposing employees to electrical hazards.

Hard service flexible cords No. 12 or larger may be repaired if spliced so that the splice retains the insulation, outer sheath properties, and usage characteristics of the cord being spliced:    a)  On or about February 16, 2012, at the jobsite located 308-312 E. 53rd Street, Chicago, IL. - Employees and subcontractors employees were performing demolition, carpentry and electrical operations in a rehab using temporary  electrical lines that were spliced to service the temporary lights and receptacle outlets, thereby exposing employees to electrical hazards.
