Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and verticalsurface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrailsystems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. a) At the jobsite, on the street-side dormer, on or about 3/2/12: An employee was pointing a chimney, approximately 30 feet from ground without any fall protection. b) At the jobsite, on the street-side dormer, on or about 3/2/12: An employee carried a wheelbarrow from the ladder access to the roof, walked across the roof and placed the wheelbarrow onto the dormer, at heights over 20 feet from ground without any fall protection.

29 CFR 1926.503(a)(1): The employer shall provide a training program for each employee who might be exposed to fallhazards. The program shall enable each employee to recognize the hazards of falling and shall train each employee in the procedures to be followed inorder to minimize these hazards. a) At the jobsite, on or about 3/2/12: Two employees were exposed to fall hazards in excess of 20 feet, without training on procedures to protect them against serious injury resulting from falls. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
