29 CFR 1926.651(c)(2):     Means of egress from trench excavations. A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress shall be located in trench excavations that are 4 feet (1.22 m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62 m) of lateral travel for employees.    a. At the site at 1630 Hilliard-Rome Hilliard, Ohio, employees were installing 14 feet sections of sewer lines in a 4 feet 3 inch to 6 feet 8 inch deep trench that was approximately 50 feet in length.  One extension ladder was used as a means of egress at one end of the trench, leaving a max lateral length of travel of 50 feet for a safe means of egress, thereby exposing the employees to the hazards associated if a cave-in of the trench would occur.       Walter's Excavating was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1926.651(c)(2), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 311836761, citation number 01, item number 1/a and was affirmed as a final order on September 16, 2008, with respect to a workplace located at 8508 Orion Road Columbus, Ohio 43240.
