29 CFR 1910.1030(g)(2)(vii)(M): The employer did not provide an explanation of the signs and labels and/or color coding required by paragraph (g)(1) of this section as it applies to contaminated waste and contaminated laundry. a.) Southwestern Alpha Housing and Healthcare dba Avalon Springs Nursing Center - use of proper labelling and red bags for the safe handling of contaminated waste and contaminated laundry was not standard throughout the facility. Some clinical employees place contaminted waste into red bags and contaminated laundry into yellow bags, however, laundry employees are trained to recognize yellow bags as "isolation" laundry and red bags as "bloodborne" laundry.

29 CFR 1910.1030(c)(1)(iv)(A): The Exposure Control Plan did not reflect changes in technology that eliminate or reduce exposure to bloodborne pathogens; and did not document annually the consideration and implementation of appropriate commercially available and effective safer medical devices designed to eliminate or minimize occupational exposure. a.) Southwestern Alpha Housing and Healthcare dba Avalon Springs Nursing Center - the employer's exposure control plan did not address the need for documentation of the evaluation and consideration of safer needle devices and sharps. Facility employees were potentially exposed to blood and other potentially infectious materials during the course of their normal work operations including, but not limited to, providing injections, clean-up of blood and other potentially infectious materials, and collection and disposal of contaminated materials.
