29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):  One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks:    The employer does not guard machines to protect the operator and employees from hazards of the machine.      a) This violation was observed on or about October 18, 2012 in the machine shop where employees were exposed to caught-in and caught-between hazards while operating a Drilling Machine BTA-3, Monarch and Standard Lathes without chuck guards on rotating chucks.   b) This violation was observed on or about October 18, 2012 in the honing department where employees were exposed to caught-in and caught-between hazards while operating a Barnes Drill Hone # 3 without guard on the sanding mechanisms.   c) This violation was observed on or about October 18, 2012 in the honing department where employees were exposed to caught-in and caught-between hazards while operating a Lehman Hydradtrol Manual Lathe #1 and #2 without chuck guards.     Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that all machines are guarded to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards.
