29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):  One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks.     Cabinet Department employees were exposed to pinch point hazards at the freight elevator on the Mezzanine at the following locations:    a)  Where the gate slides in a groove and a finger could become pinched if a hand were to be placed there, just to the right of the controls on the left of the elevator,    b)  Where the toeboard hits the floor as the elevator gate goes down as the operator of the elevator stands next to this gate to push controls,    c) Where the toeboard attached to the gate rises as the elevator come up, creating a pinch point at the fixed mid -rail.    Among other methods, one feasible method of abating these hazards would be to permanently affix the elevator controls so that the operator is removed from each of these pinch point hazards.    *Abatement certification is required per 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
