29 CFR 1910.1025(d)(2): An initial determination was not made to determine if any employee may be exposed to lead at or above the action level:  On or about January 11, 2013, and at times prior thereto, the employer had not performed sampling to determine if employees casting lead counter-weights for instrumentation were exposed to air-borne lead at or above the action level.  On January 22, 2013 an employee was exposed to an air-borne lead concentration of 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air (ug/M3) during a 142 minute lead-casting operation in which 100 lead-counterweights were cast.  Chronic overexposure to lead may result in severe damage to blood-forming, nervous, urinary and reproductive systems.  The National Toxicology Program (NTP) carcinogenic classification for lead is "Reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen" and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) carcinogenic classification for lead is Group 2B (possibly carcinogenic to humans).
