29 CFR 1926.404(c)(1)(iv): Clearance over roofs. Conductors above roof space accessible to employees on foot shall have a clearance from the highest point of the roof surface of not less than 8 feet (2.44 m) vertical clearance for insulated conductors, not less than 10 feet (3.05 m) vertical or diagonal clearance for covered conductors, and not less than 15 feet (4.57 m) for bare conductors. a. At the site located at 49 Warren Street, Columbus, Ohio, employees were performing roofing work on a newly constructed garage inwhich an energized insulated electrical conductor was touching the eave of the roof that was feeding a residential home exposing employees to an electrical hazard.

Each employee engaged in residential construction activities 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels shall be protected by guardrail systems, safety net system, or personal fall arrest system unless another provision in paragraph (b) of this section provides for an alternative fall protection measure. a. At the construction site located at 49 Warren Street Columbus, Ohio, employees were performing roofing work on a newly constructed residential garage with a 4 in 12 pitch, approximately 11 feet from the ground to the bottom eave and a 12 in 12 pitch, approximately 17 feet to the second story eave with no fall protection exposing employees to a fall hazard.
