29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use: Dock - The self-contained eyewash unit was not maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and was not suitable for emergency use, as determined by the following: 1. The unit was less than one-half full of water. The manufacturer requires that the unit be filled with water to a level 1/8 inch below the overflow point. American National Standards Institute Z358.1, American National Standard for Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment, requires that eyewash equipment deliver 0.4 gallons per minute for 15 minutes. 2. Records indicated the unit was last inspected 11/13/12. The manufacturer recommends that the unit be inspected weekly. 3. Records did not indicate when the unit was last flushed, cleaned, refilled with water and bacteriostatic additive added. The manufacturer recommends that such service be performed at least every 6 months.
