29 CFR 1910.305(g)(2)(iii): Flexible cords and cables shall be connected to devices and fittings so that strain relief is provided that will prevent pull from being directly transmitted to joints or terminal screws. On or about 02/21/2013, at the Pel Hughes printing areas, the employer failed to ensure that all of the electrical cords hanging form the ceiling had strain relief devices attached to prevent damage to the cables. The National Electric Code (NEC) stipulates that flexible electric wire must be connected to devices and fittings in such a way that strain relief is provided. The principle behind strain relief is that pulling force applied to the wire is prevented from being transferred to joints or terminal screws.
