In the basement of a residential building located at 63 Harvest Point Court, St. Peters Missouri, the employer did not ensure that flammable liquids were not applied near open flames. On 05/14/2013, the employer sprayed an Acetone containing concrete protective stain where gas operated water heater was located within feet of the floor. The Acetone was ignited either when the heater kickd on or by the pilot flames. The damage on the residential building rendered the house in habitable.

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area: (Construction Reference: 1926.59)     At the residential building located at 63 Harvest Point Court, St. Peters, Missouri, the employer did not provide training on the hazards of the chemicals used during concrete floor staining work. On 05/14/2013, the employee was exposed to burn and explosion hazards while spraying an Acetone containing concrete floor staining material in the basement of the building where open source of ignition (gas powered water heater) was located in the utility room. Fire and explosion damaged the building rendering the house inhabitable.
