29 CFR 1910.22(c): Covers and/or guardrails were not provided to protect personnel from the hazards of open pits, tanks, vats, ditches, etc: SaraMax Sayreville, NJ site - Warehouse Area: a) Employer allows employees to walk across moving conveyor belt via a cardboard box used as a makeshift step stool. No crossover platform and guardrails were provided to protect employees from caught in and/or fall hazards associated with crossing over the conveyor belt. b) Employer allows employees to walk and/or step on the free turning rollers of the conveyor belt system when crossing over the conveyor. Employees' feet can become caught between the rollers of the conveyor. Condition noted on or about 6/5/2013. 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by moving parts of conveyors and rotating parts: SaraMax Sayreville, NJ site - Warehouse Area: a) The moving rollers located along the conveyor belt system were not guarded to prevent employees clothing and/or hair from accidentally being caught in the in-running nip points during operation. b) The moving rollers of the overhead conveyor located above an employee passageway, was not guarded to prevent employees hair or other material from being caught in it. The bottom of the overhead conveyor is positioned 62 inches (5 feet) from the floor. Condition noted on or about 6/5/2013.
