29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. a) Columbia County Bridge #42 over Catawiisa Creek, Mainville, PA: Employees removed and carried wooden planks without any means of fall protection while on the southeast and northwest sides of a corrugated sheet metal platform that ranged in height above ground level from ten-foot, two-inches (10'2") at the center of the bridge to six-foot (6') at the northeast and southwest bridge abutments. Employees were exposed to a fall hazard onto a rocky creek bed, on or about August 21, 2013. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is not required for this violation. Abatement was observed during the inspection.
