29 CFR 1910.107(b)(5)(i): The spraying operations except electrostatic spraying operations shall be so designed, installed and maintained that the average air velocity over the open face of the booth (or booth cross section during spraying operations) shall be not less than 100 linear feet per minute. Electrostatic spraying operations may be conducted with an air velocity over the open face of the booth of not less than 60 linear feet per minute, or more, depending on the volume of the finishing material being applied and its flammability and explosion characteristics.     PAINT SHOP:  The average air velocity over the open face of the spray paint booth #1 was less than 100 linear feet per minute during the spray painting operation.    ABATED DURINGTHE INSPECTION.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc.    A. Deburring Department:  The ingoing nip points, created by the upper and lower pulleys located at the right and back of the Baldor vertical belt sander were  unguarded.      B.  Machine Shop:      1.  The ingoing nip points, created by the bottom pulley located at the right and back sides of the Kalamazoo vertical belt sander were unguarded.       2.  The right unused portion of the Anderson horizontal bandsaw was unguarded.    3:  The ingoing nip points, created by the bottom pulley located at the right and back sides of the Baldor vertical belt sander were unguarded.          ALL ITEMS WERE ABATED DURING THE INSPECTION.
