The backcut shall leave sufficient hinge wood to hold the tree to the stump during most of its fall so that the hinge is able to guide the tree's fall in the intended direction.  On or about 01/16/2014, the employer did not ensure that the backcut left sufficient hinge to hold the tree trunk to the stump while the tree was falling. Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by a tree being felled that was not under control.
