29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, were not provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact: a). On or about 2/11/14, on site, for the employee dispensing SilverStream Color Activator and Stabilizer into the Image Setter. The employee handles the Activator 1-2 times a month and the Stabilizer once a week. The SilverStream Color Activator and Stabilizer contain chemicals such as, but not limited to, Potassium Hydroxide (a corrosive) and Monopotassium Phosphate. The employer did not provide the employee with a rubber apron when handling this chemical. b). On or about 2/11/14, on site, for the employees using Pronto on a daily basis. Pronto contain chemicals such as, but not limited to, Dipropylene Glycol Methyl Ether. The employer provides Nitrile Gloves, however, the employer did not require the use of the gloves when handling Pronto. c). On or about 2/11/14, on site, for employees using Universal Pink on a daily basis. The Universal Pink is a fountain solution used on printing plates during the printing process. Universal Pink contain chemicals such as, but not limited to, Dipropylene Glycol. The employer provides Nitrile Gloves, however, the employer did not require the use of the gloves when handling Universal Pink.
