29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a. Machine Shop Area - On or about April 8, 2014, employees were required to operate FMB horizontal and Marvel vertical band saws without a guard to protect the exposed portion of the unused rotting saw blade. Employees were exposed to coming in contact with the unprotected saw blade. b. Machine Shop Area - On or about April 8, 2014, employees were required to operate the Mori Seiki lathe with an unguarded chuck. The employees were thereby exposed to the hazard associated with rotating/moving parts.
