Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a) Mason Farms, main barn, auto lift. On or about April 23, 2015, and at times prior there to, employees were potentially exposed to struck-by hazards while working under and/or near the Globe automotive lifts. The automotive lifts were not removed from service after damage and/or defects were identified. Defective components included, but were not limited to, vehicle stabilizing feet on the lift arms. Wood blocks were utilized as a substitute for vehicle lift components and were braced between the lift arms and the vehicle. In addition, the safety stops on the lift were not engaged while working on vehicles that include but are not limited to the Chevy 3500 flatbed truck. b) Mason Farms, main barn, auto lift. On or about April 23, 2015, employees were potentially exposed to struck-by hazards while working under and/or near potentially defective automotive lifts due to the lack of an automotive lift inspection program. Procedures were not established to conduct daily and routine inspections of the Globe automotive lift in order to identify defects associated with the working operation of the lift. Daily and routine inspections of components such as, but not limited to, the structural components, electrical components and wiring, lift controls, including operation of the positive stop, and the lift locks for the automotive lift were not conducted.
