29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems.   The employer does not ensure that each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet or more above a lower level is protected from falling.  This violation was observed on or about August 27, 2015 when employees were exposed to a fall hazard greater than six feet when performing framing work without a fall protection system.  Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure employees on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet or more above a lower level is protected from falling.

29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(1): Where portable ladders were used for access to an upper landing surface and the ladder's length allows, the ladder side rails did not extend at least 3 feet (.9 m) above the upper landing surface being accessed.   The employer does not ensure that ladder used by employees is extended at least 3 feet above the upper landing surface. This violation was observed on or about August 27, 2015 at the construction site on the west side of the commercial building being constructed where employees were exposed to a 11 ft. 8 inches fall hazard while using an extension ladder to access a roof without extending the ladder side rails at least three feet above the roof landing or securing the top of the ladder to the roof landing.   Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that ladders used by employees have the ladders side rails extended at least three feet above the roof landing, or securing the top of the ladder to the roof landing.
