The employee was wearing a respirator.

29 CFR 1910.1000(e): Feasible administrative or engineering controls were not determined and implemented to achieve compliance with the limits prescribed in 29 CFR 1910.1000(a) through (d):   a) Batch Room -  The local exhaust ventilation was inadequate to control dust emissions. An employee was exposed to respirable dust containing 57% crystalline silica (quartz) at a TWA of 0.276 mg/m3, which was 1.63 times above the permissible exposure level (PEL) of 0.169 mg/m3, and was taken for 378 minutes, on or about June 2, 2016.  b) Furnace Area -  The ventilation provided for the furnaces was inadequate to control emissions of silica dust and barium fumes and dust. An employee was exposed to respirable dust containing 20% crystalline silica (quartz) at a TWA of 0.501 mg/m3, which was a possible overexposure to the PEL of 0.455 mg/m3, and was exposed to barium at a TWA of 0.667 mg/m3, which was 1.33 times above the permissible exposure level (PEL) of 0.5 mg/m3, and was taken for 246 minutes, on or about June 2, 2016.
