29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a. On or about August 4, 2016, employees were operating a JET horizontal/vertical bandsaw, model HVBS-56M, serial 150640855. The unused portion of the cutting blade was unguarded, exposing employees to an amputation hazard.

29 CFR 1910.213(h)(4): Installation shall be in such a manner that the front end of the unit will be slightly higher than the rear, so as to cause the cutting head to return gently to the starting position when released by the operator. a. On or about August 4, 2016 and at times prior, employees were operating a 10 inch Craftsman radial arm saw, model 315.220100, serial BK 124760798. The saws yoke assembly did not return once released by the operator, exposing employees to an amputation hazard.
