29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a. On the Desco printer 197, serial no. 25079, guards were not placed over all openings on the front of the printer and head number 4 was not closed allowing access to rotating parts, exposing employees to an amputation hazard. b. On the Desco printer 195, serial no. 25080, guards were not placed over all openings on the front of the printer and head number 4 was not closed allowing access to rotating parts, exposing employees to an amputation hazard. c. On the Desco printer 190, serial no. 25073, guards were not placed over all openings on the front of the printer and head number 4 was not closed allowing access to rotating parts, exposing employees to an amputation hazard.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(2): General requirements for machine guards. Guards shall be affixed to the machine where possible and secured elsewhere if for any reason attachment to the machine is not possible. The guard shall be such that it does not offer an accident hazard in itself. a. In the production area, the Desco printer number 197, serial no. 25079, did not have guards affixed to the machine exposing employees to in-going nip points and rotating parts. b. In the production area, the Desco printer number 195, serial no. 25080, did not have guards affixed to the machine exposing employees to in-going nip points and rotating parts. c. In the production area, the Desco printer number 190, serial no. 25073 did not have guards affixed to the machine exposing employees to in-going nip points and rotating parts.
