29 CFR 1926.100(a): Employees were not protected by protective helmets while working in areas where there was a possible danger of head injury from impact, or from falling or flying objects, or from electrical shock and burns::  Trail Creek Village Shopping Center, 700 US Hwy 29, Athens, GA -  Employees were observed passing large boxes of brick overhead to an employee on a scaffold platform exposing them to head injuries. The employer did not ensure that employees are protected by protective helmets when working in areas where there is a potential danger of head injury from impact of falling or flying objects, on or about 01/10/17.   In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).

A ladder was not provided.

29 CFR 1926.451(f)(14): Makeshift devices, such as but not limited to boxes and barrels, were used on top of scaffold platforms to increase the working level height of employees:  a) Trail Creek Village Shopping Center, 700 US Hwy 29, Athens, GA - Employees were exposed to a fall hazard. Employees were observed using an unstable dry wall bench (step stool) while installing brick, on or about 01/10/17.  b) Trail Creek Village Shopping Center, 700 US Hwy 29, Athens, GA - Employees were exposed to a fall hazard. Employees were observed using a bucket while installing brick, on or about 01/10/17   In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
