Employees work in the warehouse as order pickers and packers, which often incudes the use of pallet jacks and powered industrial trucks (PITs) such as battery-powered forklift trucks. All 11 operators on site participate in battery charging activities for the forklifts without eye or hand protection. A workplace assessment has not been performed and certified by the employer. This condition exposed employees to corrosive chemical hazards due to sulfuric acid contained in batteries.
