OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): : The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being the load or lift components should the lift fail.        a.  At the facility in bay number seven, on or about 1/16/18:  A two post surface mounted Rotary lift was being operated without its swing support arm locking mechanisms being in place.      Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to :    Ensure the safety features on each automotive lift are operational prior to using the lift.  Additionally, in accordance with the Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. ,standard for automotive lifts, follow paragraph 4.4.4 (4) which states; The lift owner or employer shall take all appropriate steps to follow the recommended inspection procedures of the lift manufacturer, but in no event shall the lift operator fail to inspect or take notice of the following features on a daily basis: proper operation of the lift controls (including over-travel shut off devices and synchronizing systems), restraints and locking devices.     Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
