29 CFR 1926.651(k)(1): An inspection of the excavations, the adjacent areas, and protective systems was not conducted by the competent person prior to the start of work and as needed throughout the shift: At the jobsite located at 47th & Broadway, Wichita, KS, an employee engaged in pipe fitting activities was exposed to cave-in hazards in that the unprotected excavation that measured approximately 10 feet in depth was not inspected by a competent person prior to the employee entering the excavation.
