A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress shall be located in trench excavations that are 4 feet (1.22 m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62 m) of lateral travel for employees.    (a) Fort Knox Army Installation - Sewer line replacement project located at 7955 Wilson Road: A worker was working in a trench probing for the existing sewer line and the employer did not provide safe means access and egress.

29 CFR 1926.51(f)(3)(i): Lavatories shall be made available in all places of employment. The requirements of this subdivision do not apply to mobile crews or to normally unattended work locations if employees working at these locations have transportation readily available to nearby washing facilities which meet the other requirements of this paragraph.  a) Fort Knox Army Installation - Sewer line replacement project - 7955 Wilson Road: Workers were not provided with facilities to allow them to wash their hands after using the porta-potty restroom that provided in the parking lot adjacent to the work site.
