An employee suffered serious burns to his right hand and wrist when he slipped and fell onto a mop cart containing 400 degree asphalt during flat roofing operations. The employee was wearing his own nylon/polyester gloves which do not offer proper protection for hot asphalt work. The employer did not assure that the employee-owned gloves were adequate to protect the worker from hot work hazards.
