29 CFR 1926.1153(f)(2): The employer shall not allow compressed air to be used to clean clothing or surfaces where such activity could contribute to employee exposure to respirable crystalline silica unless: (f)(2)(i) The compressed air is used in conjunction with a ventilation system that effectively captures the dust cloud created by the compressed air; or (f)(2)(ii) No alternative method is feasible. a) Vickey Surgery Center, on or about 8/13/19: Employee was cutting a concrete brick wall composed of crystalline silica with a Stihl Demo Saw that was equipped with an integrated water delivery system that continuously feeds water to the blade and an employee was blowing the dust from the other side of the wall with a Stihl Leaf Blower. Air shall not be used to clean surfaces that could contribute to exposure to crystalline silica.
