Workers involved in scraping and painting the exterior walls of the building were exposed to catapulting-type falls from the basket of the Genie telescopic boom lift as they were not using personal fall arrest or restraint devices. Violation observed on or about 09/05/2019.

29 CFR 1926.454(a): The employer did not have each employee who performed work while on a scaffold trained by a person qualified in the subject matter to recognize the hazards associated with the type of scaffold being used and to understand the procedures to control or minimize those hazards (Aerial Lift Training Covered By Scaffolds): a) 6 Essex Street, Belleville, NJ and at the Corporate Offices at 528 US Highway 22, Hillside, NJ. Workers operating the Genie S-60 Telescopic Boom Lift were not provided training on its use and operation from the employer as demonstrated by, but not limited to, their not using fall protection while in the lift's basket.
