29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i): (1) Unprotected sides and edges. (i) Except as provided elsewhere in this section, the employer must ensure that each employee on a walking-working surface with an unprotected side or edge that is 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level is protected from falling by one or more of the following: (A) Guardrail systems; (B) Safety net systems; or (C) Personal fall protection systems, such as personal fall arrest, travel restraint, or positioning systems. On September 12, 2019, located on the south side of a low pitch residential roof, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard repairing a vent pipe while not utilizing an adequate fall protection system. Potential fall height measured to be more than 25 feet with a roof pitch measuring to be 4/12.

(A) Guardrail systems; (B) Safety net systems; (C) Personal fall protection systems, such as personal fall arrest, travel restraint, or positioning systems; (D) Warning line systems; or (E) Safety monitoring systems. On September 12, 2019, located on the south side of a residential roof, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard as a fall protection system was not provided or installed prior to an employee performing repair work of a vent pipe located on a low pitch roof. Potential fall height measured to be more than 25 feet with a roof pitch measuring to be 4/12.
