29 CFR 1910.243(c)(1): Portable abrasive wheels. General requirements. Abrasive wheels shall be used only on machine provided with safety guards as defined in paragraph (c) (1) through (4) of this section.  a. On or about January 17, 2020, the employer had not required and did not assure that portable abrasive wheels were only used with guarding. A Dewalt 4 1/2 inch angle grinder did not have the manufacturer's guard attached and was used for equipment repair, grinding edges on wing nut style fasteners. Due to this condition, employees are at increased risk for injury related to contact hazards with the active grinding wheel during use.
