29 CFR  1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks:   Employees were exposed to amputation and struck-by hazards. Employees engaged in machining activities were exposed to amputation hazards in that machine guarding was not provided.  a) Jet Drill Press, Serial #408354, Model #354035/J-30, at the maintenance shop area. b) Bridgeport Mill, at the maintenance shop area. c) South Bend Lathe (SBL) Milling machine, at the tooling machine shop area.   29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is complete.

29 CFR  1910.215(b)(9): The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery(s) and the adjustable tongue or the end of the safety guard peripheral member at the top exceeded one fourth inch:   Employees engaged in machining activities at the 8" Baldor Heavy Duty Bench Grinder located in the tooling machine shop area were exposed to struck-by hazards in that the distance from the abrasive wheel to the adjustable tongue guard was found to be approximately 1 inch.  29 CFR 1903.19(c)(2) abatement of the above violation was verified at time of inspection, no certification is required.
