The interlocked guards had been bypassed, allowing employees to operate the trash compactor with the door open. This condition exposed employees to crushing hazards.

29 CFR  1910.37(a)(3): Exit route(s) were not kept free and unobstructed:  (a) Dick's Sporting Good, Inc. at 31 W Flatiron Crossing Drive in Broomfield, CO: On or before March 30, 2021, the employer did not ensure that exits were kept free and unobstructed. Both emergency exits in the warehouse were blocked by material. This exposed four employees to safety hazards related to impeding their ability to exit the building in an emergency.  Dick's Sporting Good, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard, which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1198097, Citation 1 Item 1, and was affirmed as a final order on April 4, 2017, with respect to a workplace located at 2470 Market Street Ne, Washington, DC 20018.
