29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks:  a) Machine shop: The Jet and LaGun Republic milling machines were not equipped with chip shields exposing employees to struck by and laceration hazards, as observed on or about January 28, 2022.  b) Machine shop: The OTC 50 ton hydraulic press was not equipped with a guard exposing employees to a crushing hazard or flying projectiles in the event of part breakage, as observed on or about January 28, 2022.  Abatement Documentation and Certification Required.

29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery(s) and the adjustable tongue or the end of the safety guard peripheral member at the top exceeded one fourth inch:  a) Machine shop: The right side tongue guard on the Dayton bench grinder was measured at a width of one inch from the abrasive wheel periphery exposing employees to a struck by hazard in the event of wheel breakage, as observed on or about January 28, 2022.  b) Machine shop: The left side tongue guard on the Milwaukee bench grinder was missing exposing employees to a struck by hazard in the event of wheel breakage, as observed on or about January 28, 2022.  Abatement Certification Required.
