29 CFR  1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks:  a) Facility, 110 Narrows Road, Connellsville, PA:  On or about June 7, 2022, employees were exposed to the following machine guarding hazards on the CRD Metalworks Firewood Processing Machine with the 44 inch saw:  1.  Chain and Sprocket: 5 feet from the concrete ground to the bottom of sprocket.  6'5" from the ground to the top of the sprocket.  20" of the chain was exposed. 2.  Conveyor:  28' unguarded along the length. 3.  Access to holding arm:  Unguarded opening of 25" from the existing guard to the automatic holding arm. 4.  Access to saw:  Unguarded opening of 32" from the existing guard to the 44" saw blade. 5.  Access to ram and splitter wedge:  Unguarded opening of 18" from operator controls and seat to the vertical wedge/cutter and horizontal cutter.  b) Facility, 110 Narrows Road, Connellsville, PA:  On or about June 7, 2022, employees were exposed to the following machine guarding hazards on the CRD Metalworks Firewood Processing Machine with the 60 inch saw:  1.  In feed to conveyor:  unguarded approximately 12-15" opening at the end of the in feed that goes into the conveyor. 2.  Conveyor: 30' unguarded along the length. 3.  Access to holding arm:  Unguarded opening of 12" from the existing guard to the automatic holding arm. 4.  Access to saw:  Unguarded opening of 22" from the existing guard to the 62" saw blade. 5.  Access to ram and wedge: Unguarded opening of  24" from the operator controls and seat to the vertical wedge/cutter and horizontal cutter.
