29 CFR 1910.107(b)(2): The interior surfaces of spray booths were not smooth and continuous without edges and otherwise designed to prevent pocketing of residues and facilitate cleaning and washing without injury: (a) On or before 11/2/2023, the employer did not ensure that the interior of the spray booth was smooth and continuous. The employer had installed egg carton-style foam onto the ceiling of the booth for sound dampening purposes. This condition exposed employees to fire hazards.

29 CFR 1910.94(c)(4)(iii): the employer did not ensure that the spray rooms were adequately ventilated so that the atmosphere in the breathing zone of the operator was maintained in accordance with the requirements of paragraph (c)(6)(ii) of this section: (a) On or before 11/2/2023, the employer did not ensure that the spray booth exhausted to ensure that the atmosphere both inside and outside the spray area was maintained for adequate ventilation. The spray booth exhaust hose was draped over the side of the booth, exhausting into a gap between the booth and an interior wall and no exhaust to the exterior of the building was in place. The spray booth doors were left open during spraying operations. This condition exposed employees to respiratory hazards.

The duct was a flexible, non-metallic hose draped over the side of the booth. This condition exposed employees to fire and respiratory hazards.

29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment was not used when necessary whenever hazards capable of causing injury and impairment were encountered: (a) On or before 11/2/2023, the employer did not ensure that employees spraying glue in a spray booth were wearing protective clothing. The SDS for the spray glue listed the use of protective clothing. Employees were wearing street clothes with both bare arms and legs to the glue and other chemicals. This condition exposed employees to skin irritation hazards.
