29 CFR  1910.132(a):Protective equipment was not used when necessary whenever hazards capable of causing injury and impairment were encountered:  On or about March 19, 2024, protective equipment was not used whenever hazards capable of causing injury were encountered when employees that operate the press in the aluminum extrusion department are exposed to burn hazards when starting a new die. When starting a new die, employees must handle aluminum that is heated to 900-950 degrees Fahrenheit in order to place a rail kit or sled, straighten out the hot metal, push the metal down by hand until it gets to the air knife, or make other adjustments to the piece as it is being fed through the new die. Personal protective equipment use is not enforced for this process, as employees use hot mitts when handling the metal, but are not required to wear protective thermal sleeves in addition to their long sleeved FR uniform tops.
