29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes: At the warehouse shop located at 1060 Woodside St. McPherson, Kansas, employees engaged in scrap metal recycling activities, cutting open 265-gallon intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) containing residue of Atrazine 4L and Paraquat 3SL herbicides, are exposed to chemical burn hazards. The employer did not select and require appropriate hand protection to protect employees from accidental skin contact with corrosive chemicals. Skin exposure to Atrazine 4L and Paraquat 3SL herbicides can result in: skin irritation, may cause an allergic skin reaction, harmful if absorbed through skin, and may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area: At the warehouse shop located at 1060 Woodside St. McPherson, Kansas, employees engaged in scrap metal recycling activities, cutting open 265-gallon intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) containing residue of Atrazine 4L and Paraquat 3SL herbicides, are exposed to chemical hazards. The employer did not provide employees with effective information and training on the chemical hazards of Atrazine 4L and Paraquat 3SL herbicides. The chemical hazards associated with these chemicals include: skin, eye and respiratory irritation, may cause an allergic skin reaction, harmful if absorbed through skin, harmful and/or toxic if swallowed, and may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.
