29 CFR  1910.212(a)(1): Machine guarding was not provided to protect operator(s) and other employees from hazards created by in-going nip points, rotating parts, and/or flying chips and sparks:   On or about January 30, 2025, the employer failed to ensure that the following machinery/equipment was guarded:  a) The unused portion of the HEM (H90A-B/F, serial no. 617798) automatic horizontal band saw was not guarded, and safety covers/shields were not affixed to the machinery. The operator and/ other in the immediate vicinity were potentially exposed to hazards the blade's cutting path and by flying chips and debris when cutting metal stock.   b) Although the Baldor (CL3503 5HP 2) vertical belt sander had guarding, it was damaged, and did not fully enclose the rollers and  in-going nip points on the machinery/equipment.  Operators who used the vertical belt sander when buffing and/or removing imperfections/burrs from  small metal components were potentially exposed to in-going nip point and/or caught-in hazards if their hands or fingers were to inadvertently make contact with the moving parts.
