(a) Sawmill 2nd Floor: On or about March 13, 2025, saw dust covered the electrical equipment, mechanical equipment, other horizontal surfaces, the rafters and the floor of the sawmill, exposing employees to flash fires and explosion hazards. 29 CFR 1910.22(c): The employer did not provide, and ensure each employee uses, a safe means of access and egress to and from walking-working surfaces.  (a) Sawmill 2nd Floor: On or about March 13, 2025, employees accessed the transfer deck by stepping 22 to 31 inches from the floor onto the table to retrieve boards and clear jams, exposing the employees to slip, trip and fall hazards.    Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date.  The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states that employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.

29 CFR  1910.28(b)(3)(i): The employer did not ensure each employee is protected from falling through any hole (including skylights) that is 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level by one or more of the following: covers, guardrail systems, travel restraint systems, or personal fall arrest systems, as required by sub-items A through D of this section.   (a) Sawmill 2nd Floor: On or about March 13, 2025, employees climbed over the transfer deck to the north end of the sawmill to retrieve boards and clear jams in the chipper chute next to and near an unguarded hole in the floor, exposing the employees to falls of up to 8 feet 5 inches to the ground below.     No abatement certification or documentation required.

(a) Sawmill 2nd Floor: On or about March 13, 2025, the HMC trimmer saw foot pedal lacked a protective shroud or guard to prevent inadvertent actuation of the chains, exposing employees to entanglement and caught-in hazards. (a) Sawmill 2nd Floor: On or about March 13, 2025, an employee assigned to daily cleanup duties in the sawmill used compressed air guns without chip guards, exposing the employee to eye injury hazards from flying particles. 29 CFR  1910.265(e)(5)(iii)(a): Edger(s) were not provided with safety fingers or other approved methods of preventing kickbacks or guarding against them.   (a) Sawmill 2nd Floor: On or about March 13, 2025, the Reckart edgers used to remove excess bark and wane from boards and used to turn large cants into multiple boards does not have sufficient guarding at the outfeed sides to protect against kickbacks, exposing employees to struck by hazards.    Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date.  The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states that employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
