OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees  At a worksite operated by the Platte Center West, LLC, Humphrey Pig (PCW) at 44578 250th Ave. Humphrey, Nebraska. Employees were exposed to fire and electrical hazards. Instances of exposure include but are not limited to:  (a.) Daisy?chained extension cords used to power a 500?watt system of infrared heat lamps operated continuously (24 hours a day) for approximately one week.  (b.) Utilizing damaged electrical extension cords in a wet environment within the nursery pens.  FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:  1. Provide permanent, properly rated branch circuits and receptacles for heat lamp loads; avoid using extension cords for continuous or permanent applications. 2. Eliminate daisy?chaining; use a single, industrial?grade cord only when truly temporary and rated above the load, with proper overcurrent protection. 3. Manage heat lamp placement and clearance from combustibles; use listed fixtures and secure mounting; add timers/thermostats if appropriate to avoid unnecessary continuous operation. 4. Follow the National Fire Protection Association - NFPA 70E Standards for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. 5. Use electrical equipment rated for wet environments.
