The employee powered down an air handling unit. While it was slowing down, the employee removed a motor guard when it slipped onto the belt/sheave below, making noise and beginning to burn the belt. As he attempted to move the guard, the belt pulled his left fingers into a pinch point, partially amputating the middle finger and crushing the index finger. The machine was not locked/tagged out at the time.
