The shoe in the powdered metal press was hanging up so the employee who is a set-up trainee went to trouble shoot it. The employee unplugged the plant airline to the moving part (shoe). The employee then plugged in the cleaning airline to the shoe. The cleaning airline has much less pressure than the plant airline. The shoe did not move as it should. The employee tried to maneuver the shoe with her hand and it would not move. The shoe then moved forward and caught her fingertip between the shoe and the die resulting in the amputation of the left middle fingertip.
