An employee was making adjustments to a belt conveyor and had removed the guard from the chain and sprockets. The conveyor was turned off and the adjustment was made. The employee turned the conveyor on to ensure the adjustment was effective. The employee was demonstrating to another employee what adjustments had been made by pointing to the parts with his left hand when the employee's hand became caught in the chain and sprocket resulting in multiple fractures requiring hospitalization for medical treatment.
