On June 5, 2017, at 11:50 AM, an employee was directing a tour of elementary school children and attempting to retrieve biological samples from the Lackawanna River with a net. The employee dropped the net into the river. While attempting to retrieve the net, the employee fell down an 8-foot embankment and landed in the river, breaking three ribs and four vertebrae. The employee was hospitalized.
