Final narrative
At about 11:00 a.m. on July 14, 2018, an employee was cleaning the front/feed roll of a three-roll mill after milling a batch. He was scraping the front roll using a metal spatula, 10 inches long with a 4-inch blade. He had finished cleaning the left side and center of the front roll and had started cleaning the right side of the roll, applying pressure to the spatula with his right hand and using his left hand to support his right hand. He suffered amputations to the left ring and pinky fingers. At the time of the incident, the mill was powered and a guard was in place between the middle and front rolls.
