An employee was loading wood onto a conveyor that carried the wood away from the employee when a piece of wood became jammed. The employee hit the reverse button and the piece of wood started to come back toward the employee. The employee reached down and grabbed the nearest end of the piece of wood. The conveyor pushed the piece of wood against a metal guard and the employee's thumb tip was caught between the wood and metal guard, resulting in a thumb tip amputation.
