On June 29, 2023, an employee was working near the edge of the carrier/woody pit located in the rod mill reform area of the plant. The employee removed banding from around compressed steel. Due to the release of tension, the steel pushed the employee, causing him to fall approximately 8 feet into the pit. The employee was hospitalized with a fractured right heel and required surgery.
